EEO Priorities

The NSW State Plan “State Plan, A New Direction for NSW” has set out the goals the community wants the NSW Government to work towards. It has also identified priorities for Government action that will help achieve each of these goals over the next 10 years.

The State Plan focuses on five areas of activity of the NSW Government:

  1. Rights, Respect and Responsibility – the justice system and services that promote community involvement and citizenship
  2. Delivering Better Services – key services to the whole population including health, education and transport.
  3. Fairness and Opportunity – services that promote social justice and reduce disadvantage
  4. Growing Prosperity Across NSW – activities that promote productivity and economic growth, particularly in rural and regional NSW and
  5. Environment for Living – planning for housing and jobs, environmental protection, arts and recreation.

Under the “Fairness and Opportunity” section, three priorities relate to Equal Employment Opportunity:

  1. “Strengthening Aboriginal Communities”, Priority F1 - “Improved health, education and social outcomes for Aboriginal people” which includes a requirement to “Increase Aboriginal employment”.
  2. “Opportunity and support for the most vulnerable”, Priority F2 - “Increased employment and community participation for people with disabilities” with a requirement to “Close the gap in the unemployment rate between people with a disability and the overall community by 50 per cent by 2016.”
  3. “Opportunity and support for the most vulnerable”, Priority F3 – “Improved mental health outcomes”.

Reports on progress towards the NSW State Plan benchmarks can be accessed through the the NSW State Plan website.
